Wizards are supreme magic-users, defined and united as a class by the spells they cast. Drawing on the subtle weave of magic that permeates the cosmos, wizards cast spells of explosive fire, arcing lightning, subtle deception, and brute-force mind control. Their magic conjures monsters from other planes of existence, glimpses the future, or turns slain foes into zombies. Their mightiest spells change one substance into another, call meteors down from the sky, or open portals to other worlds.
Wizardry is accomplished by using the power of dreams. A wizard uses dreams to practice spells they know and to learn new ones. Every dream connects the dreamer to the astral plane, and wizards exploit this connection to draw power from the plane when they’re awake. This dream technique takes practice, but it can be learned by almost anybody with enough practice and dedication.
Wizards learn new spells in their dreams by experiencing and seeing new things, so most expose themselves to the world around them by reading books, meeting people, and traveling. The more experiences a wizard exposes himself to, the more spells a wizard will know, so many aspirational and courageous wizards take up an adventuring career. Those who are content with a safer life instead choose to read books and meet new people instead.
